Rules, rules, rules. I don’t like too many rules, but….
To keep this forum clean, usable, and helpful to others a set of rules have been put together that we ask all members to comply with the following:
- Free Registration Required to Post.
You will only be able to view topics until you register. Once you register, you will be able to post. Registering also allows you to use additional features of our website that are restricted to members only.
- Valid E-mail Required.
When you register, you must provide a valid e-mail address. You will receive an e-mail at that e-mail address with a link for you to click on to verify your e-mail address. You will not be able to post or edit your profile until you verify your e-mail address.
- Personal Accounts: You May Use Your Real Name, a Pen Name, or a Screen Name.
We give you the flexibility of deciding what name you want to appear next to your posts. If you want some privacy, use an alias (typically called a screen name or pen name). If you want to enhance your online reputation, then use your real name. You can also use an alias and a real name at the same time by filling out the appropriate fields on your profile.
- Accounts Promoting Something: Real Name Required
If your account is promoting something, then you must disclose your real name, either the name of the company or your legal name.
- Accounts Managed by Someone Else
If you have delegated the management of your account to someone else (for example, you have a social media manager that posts for you), you must disclose the real name of the person posting in your profile under the appropriate section.
- Please post in the right forum!
This helps people who are interested in your post find it. If you post in the wrong forum, we may move, edit or delete your post. If you have a topic that doesn’t fit into any of the forums, post in the general discussion forums.
- Use a Descriptive Topic Subject.
This will help others find what they want to read.
- No Trolling.
Don’t make posts that are inflammatory just to annoy people.
- No Personal Attacks.
Criticize ideas, not people. Flaming will not be tolerated. This includes any material which is vulgar, defamatory, inaccurate, harassing, hateful, threatening, invading of others’ privacy, sexually-oriented, or violates any laws.
- Racism & Anti-Semitism.
We will not tolerate racist or anti-semetic remarks on this website.
- No pornographic, sexually offensive, sexually explicit, or objectifying material. This includes suggestive images, graphics, and comments. We would like this site to remain a family oriented site. Please keep this in mind when posting.
- Do not post links to warez, warez sites, or sites with pornographic or objectionable content.
Only link to sites that are for family viewing only.
- Respect the privacy of others.
Do not post other’s phone numbers, addresses, pictures, relationship status, financial situation, etc., without their permission.
- Do not use objectionable language.
The Administrators and Moderators shall have the final say in what is or is not considered objectionable.
- Do not dig up old threads.
If you want to continue an old discussion (older than 1 month), create a new thread and reference the old one in your post.
- Politics and Religion.
Remember, everyone has a different viewpoint and yours is just as valid as the next person’s. Please keep your discussions civil. Not everyone is going to agree with you or be converted to your point of view. No throwing chairs, no pulling hair, no personal attacks, etc. This is a place for discussions, not fights. We will edit or delete your posts if necessary.
- No Spamming.
No commercial posts (except in The Marketplace or your own profile) or flooding the forum with useless content. It does not have to be commercial to be considered spam.
- No Caps Lock.
Please do not post messages with the subject or post all in capital letters, or your message will be edited or deleted. Words all in capitals are not only annoying but are read 50% slower than normal writing. Plus, it is considered YELLING by internet users who have been around for a while.
- Message content.
You remain solely responsible for the content of your messages.
This website does not currently support signatures, but if we ever do:
- Signatures will be no longer than 4 lines
- Signatures may contain 1 image (max. 250 x 100pixels).
- Signatures may contain a link to your personal site or sites that may be of use to other members.
- Signatures are expected to follow the same guidelines as posts.
You may edit your signature by Editing your Profile under Settings.
Advertising & Promotion
- Advertising & Promotion is permitted in The Marketplace or your profile ONLY.
- NO Blatant Advertising & Promotion except in The Marketplace or your profile.
This forum is not a free advertising space. If you have something related to personal development or training to promote, proceed to The Marketplace to post. Advertising posted in the wrong forum may be moved or deleted.
- Definition of Advertising & Promotion:
Advertising & promotion includes advertisements for products, services, and websites. It does not matter whether you are making money on the product, service, or website.
- Promoting a Website:
Please Note: A post for the purpose of requesting people to visit your website IS considered advertising & promotion, and like all advertising & promotion should be placed only in The Marketplace.
- Linking to Other People’s Websites:
A post for the purpose of promoting someone else’s website may also be considered advertising and promotion in certain contexts. For example, “visit this website, it’s great!” would be considered a promotion even if it’s not your website if it’s not relevant to an existing topic. If you are answering someone’s question, then it probably wouldn’t be considered advertising and promotion. Note that we have no way of knowing if it’s your website or not, so basically if it looks like an ad, then we will treat it as such. If you want to recommend a great website, please do so in The Marketplace unless you are answering someone’s question or contributing to a topic already in progress.
- Questionable or Illegal Advertising.
We will remove any advertising we deem is misleading, illegal, or fraudulent.
- Prohibited Advertisements.
Advertising for alcohol, tobacco, firearms, gambling, and similar things are not permitted on this website and will be deleted.
- Link Farms and Websites Using Questionable SEO Practices.
We will remove any links to websites that are link farms or that appear to use practices that go against search engine rules (i.e. who are trying to spam the search engine index by manipulating items on a page instead of providing good content). Links to websites that have no real content will be removed. Also, websites that appear to be banned by Google and/or other search engines will be removed immediately from our website since having such links negatively affects our website’s search engine ranking.
- Buyer Beware!
We are not responsible and have no control over advertisers who post in this forum. Advertisers are responsible for their own actions.
- Advertising is expected to follow the same guidelines as posts.
Censorship & Free Speech
- Free Speech Allowed on This Forum.
People are allowed to express their opinions on this website even if you disagree with them or do not want something publicized. You are invited to post a civil reply stating why you disagree, but please do not start arguments. The website operates in the spirit of free speech and communication and we believe that honest communication is the best way to handle controversial subjects instead of hiding them and pretending they didn’t exist.
- Free Speech Does Not Include Breaking Forum Rules.
Just like it’s illegal to cry “Fire” in a crowded theater creating a panic, you also do not have the right to say anything you want here.
- Post Deletion Policy.
The System Administrator has the right to delete any post for any reason or no reason at all. The System Administrator may even delete posts that do not break the forum rules, with or without notice.
- Requesting a Post to Be Deleted.
You may request a post to be deleted if it violates the Forum Rules. This request must be made to the Administrator or Moderators and not to the person who posted the item. Use the Report functionality of the website to inform us of issues related to a post.
- Controversial Posts Will Not Be Censored.
The System Administrator will not delete posts simply because it is controversial or is an uncomfortable topic. If anyone requests that you delete your own post, please contact the System Administrator.
- Misrepresentation / Libel / Defamation of Character.
Please note that it is illegal to post any false statements that negatively affect someone’s reputation. It is also illegal to misrepresent the facts or to make statements in a false light.
- Preferred Language is English.
Most of the visitors to this website speak English as either a primary or secondary language, although many speak more than one language. By posting in English, the most people possible can understand what you are saying since pretty much all people visiting here speak English as one of their languages, or they are using software that translates from English to their language.
- Foreign Language Posts should have English Translations.
It would be appreciated by the staff and other visitors if you provide translations into English for any text in a foreign language you post on the site. Think of it this way: if you were at a party where everyone there spoke English, and you were in a group of 5 people talking about something, and suddenly two of them started talking about it in German, most likely you and the other two people would feel offended or left out since the three of you are now excluded from the conversation. It’s a bit rude when people exclude other people by doing that.
- Private Messages in Private Messenger
If you are using a foreign language to try to “hide” what you are saying from the English speaking visitors, it is more appropriate to send your messages via Private Messenger. Since the messages are private, they can be in any language both of you understand.
- Editing and Translation of Your Posts by Staff
At the Administrator’s option, your post may be edited by an Administrator or Moderator to include an English Translation. We will most likely use an online translation website and it may or may not accurately translate your post. As mentioned earlier, if the message is in a foreign language to prevent English speakers from understanding, it’s better to use a Private Message, because it may get translated into English for you exposing your “secret” messages. The staff has no obligation to translate your posts and may delete them instead.
- We are Not Suppressing Other Languages.
By having these rules, we are not suppressing other languages or saying English is better. We are just saying since most people here understand English (or are using a program to translate from English to their language), posting in English would be beneficial to most people.
- Similar Usernames or Avatars.
You may not use a username and/or avatar that is similar to or the same as an Administrator, Moderator, Facilitator, or Staff Member of this website if such a username or use of an avatar would cause confusion to other users. For example, you may not use the same avatar as the Administrator of this website. (Exception: you may use the same avatar if it is an avatar automatically generated by the system, which is usually your initials.)
Enforcement of Rules
- Penalties for Breaking the Rules.
If you are found breaking any of the rules you may have your posts deleted, edited, or moved (as appropriate). In addition, your account may be deleted or suspended if the violation is serious enough or repeated after being warned.
- If You Find a Post Breaking the Rules:
If you find a post that breaks any of these rules, please contact us immediately by sending using the Report functionality of the website or via private message so we can take appropriate action.
- Management’s Decision is Final.
The Management tries to be fair and just and their decision is final in any dispute concerning the rules. The Administrator is the person who is assigned to deal with disputes and enforcement of the rules.
And most importantly:
- Have Fun!
